Position Summary:

This role is primarily responsible for the preparation of quarterly SEC filings by coordinating the efforts of the external reporting team and partnering with the VP of Investor Relations and Deputy General Counsel regarding quarterly Earnings Releases.  The Sr. Manager of External Reporting monitors new accounting guidance, communicating impacts to senior leadership and to Finance teams relative to the impact to budgeting and forecasting activities. In addition, this role will work closely to train the controllership teams on new accounting requirements, facilitating and directing process and system changes, if necessary.  The Sr. Manager of External Reporting also manages consolidations at month-end, working closely with the controllership teams to ensure deadlines are achieved. Responsibilities also include communicating changes in US accounting rules and disclosure requirements to members of the Finance and Controllership teams.  We are looking for someone with experience in due diligence activities, as needed, and in helping to ensure accurate accounting for acquisitions and other complex transactions.  A successful fit for this role should be self-motivated and proactive, have a knack for technical research with good writing and oral communication skills, have strong interpersonal skills to be able to work as part of a cohesive team and to develop strong relationships with multiple business partners at varying levels throughout the Company.

Accountabilities

  • Critical role for providing guidance and insight related to US GAAP accounting rules and SEC regulations and requirements with responsibility for SEC quarterly and annual filings
  • Responsible for Coordinating efforts of the team to ensure Quarterly filing requirements are met and for helping to ensure controls over financial reporting are in place and operating effectively
  • Works with the Sr. Manager of Global Accounting Continuous Improvement to execute on various ad-hoc projects bringing process improvements and consistency across the finance and controllership organization.
  • Assists with M&A activities, including integration activities as needed.
  • Responsibilities over the monthly and quarterly close, including preparation or review of account reconciliations and journal entries, as needed
  • Provide direction to members of the finance and controllership teams regarding the impact of complex accounting matters, including pensions and share-based compensation and unusual transactions or special situations, as needed
  • Manage projects over implementation of new accounting guidance including identification and tracking of milestones and reporting progress
  • Prepare proper supporting documentation and memos for efficient review by members of the audit team
  • Quarterly monitoring for triggering events which may indicate intangible impairment and responsibility for coordinating and documenting Q4 impairment testing work.
  • Research and evaluate accounting issues arising as a result of business requirements and work with external Audit team to confirm conclusions, where needed
  • Work closely with the external audit team to facilitate quarterly reviews and year-end audits
  • Ensure changes in accounting standards and reporting requirements are communicated to Finance and Controllership teams and respond to related inquiries from the CFO, Controller, and others.

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • 10-12 years of demonstrated relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (or higher) and CPA
  • Experience supervising and managing a team
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting principles and SEC rules and regulations
  • Ability to research, propose and document company positions on accounting issues
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task with limited supervision
  • Team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to tactfully challenge or disagree when appropriate
  • Proven ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines

 

Desirable Education, Skills and Experience

  • Big 4 Public Accounting Experience
  • Experience working in the CPG/Manufacturing industry
  • Experience working with international companies
  • Experience with Hyperion/HFM and SAP

 

Working Relationships

  • Reports to the Sr. Director of Global Accounting and External Reporting
  • Actively participates in Disclosure Committee meetings and discussions
  • Close interaction with the Chief Accounting Officer, the VP of Investor Relations, Regional Controllers, Finance Team and Deputy General Counsel
  • Provide accounting guidance to Finance/Accounting teams
  • Partner with the tax team to provide financial data and information required for tax provision preparation
  • Internal/External Audit 

 

Work Environment

  • Ability to work outside of standard business hours as needed.
  • Some travel is possible.

 

 

The salary range for this position is $128,000 - 192,000. The actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
