Position Summary

The Americas Controller is responsible for establishing the strategic plan for the controllership teams, which perform accounting, reporting and control-related activities for the US, Canada and Latin America legal entities of Edgewell Personal Care (“EPC”) in strong collaboration with our third-party business process outsource (“BPO”) provider as well as other members of the Controllership, Finance and IT teams to plan and effectuate change through the execution of global, enterprise-wide simplification, standardization and automation initiatives. The position will be responsible for and have ownership over the US and local GAAP financial statements for the US, Canada and Latin America legal entities that roll-up under the position. The successful candidate requires a strong understanding of both US and International accounting principles to support the preparation of financial statements and reports which comply with the respective applicable regulations. In addition to general ledger accounting for the North America and Latin America legal entities that roll-up into the US GAAP EPC consolidated financial statements, the position is also responsible for compliance with local regulations including statutory and VAT reporting, legal entity/cash forecasting to support working capital needs and managing global intercompany settlements for such legal entities. The position will collaborate closely with internal customers within the Finance, Commercial and AR functions to support commercial initiatives while minimizing risk with internal customers within the Treasury, Tax, Procurement and AP teams all while maintaining a strong focus on working capital and being a steward of a robust but rationale internal control framework. This position requires the vision and initiative to identify and implement opportunities for automation, streamlining and standardization across entities and regions.

This position requires leadership of a large geographically diverse team (including managing the off-shore, outsourced BPO team responsible for North America and Latin America R2R activities) and an individual with the vision, initiative and ability to partner across various functions to identify and implement opportunities for automation, simplification and standardization across entities and regions. Reporting into the Chief Accounting Officer the successful candidate will collaborate with various senior leaders in Finance & Controllership to develop and implement the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the Controllership function while developing and implementing strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce.

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for and has ownership over the US and local GAAP financial statements for the US, Canada and Latin America legal entities
  • Responsible for compliance with local regulations including statutory & VAT reporting and legal entity/cash forecasting to support working capital needs
  • Closely coordinates the monthly and quarterly financial close with EPC’s Corporate Accounting team to ensure timely closing and compliance with EPC’s SEC filing requirements and EPC’s accounting policy and reporting calendar
  • Oversight over monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timely completion
  • Coordinate with Finance, Operations Finance, Supply Chain, Commercial and GBS teams to mitigate risks and ensure the adequacy of key reserves
  • Continuous assessment and maintenance of a sound internal control framework to ensure appropriate segregation of duties and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Maintains awareness of changes in US and International accounting principles and implements new guidance through partnership with the Corporate Technical Accounting team
  • Work with external auditors to support their audit of EPC’s consolidated financial statements
  • Oversees preparation and filing of Canada and LATAM regulatory filings including statutory reporting, annual tax returns and periodic VAT filings
  • Engage audit firms for annual statutory audits and ensure timely completion
  • Partner and liaison with Tax department as well as external 3rd party service providers surrounding the direct tax accounting, compliance and reporting for the North America and Latin America legal entities
  • Engages and works closely with external indirect tax experts surrounding compliance and reporting matters
  • Partner with other members of Finance and the business on functional and/or cross functional initiatives; prioritize, plan and lead execution of such initiatives
  • Provide innovative critical and value-added consultation to evaluate and solve operational and customer process improvement areas/ issues and be responsive to questions / issues raised by stakeholders.
  • Evaluates and standardizes processes with a focus on simplification and partners with IT to implement automation and system functionality championed by the GBS R2R function
  • Partner with the GBS team to evaluate and implement additional opportunities for outsourcing
  • Assess the current third-party outsourcing arrangement and work with management and the GBS team to ensure accurate measurement of and compliance with SLAs and KPIs
  • Responsible for the maintenance and governance of standard operating procedures both those for internal processes retained by EPC and those processes outsourced to our 3rd party BPO provider
  • Collaborate with outsourced BPO provider as well as Europe and AsiaPac regional controllers to develop a strategy for standardization and improvement of processes (both retained and outsourced) to drive efficiencies and effectiveness, while reducing complexity and enhancing the internal control environment
  • Fosters a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Communicates effectively with others with clarity and transparency.
  • Develop and roll-out training program to assist with the user experience and tailor accordingly to common pitfalls facing the Americas regional accounting center of excellence and/or outsourced BPO provider
  • Attract, grow, engage and retain talent through timely, effective, and consistent use of performance management, succession, planning, coaching, and other talent management tools.  Identify and drive participation in training, development, and career growth opportunities for team members.

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 10+ years related accounting experience and working knowledge of accounting principles
  • 7+ years supervisory experience in the General Accounting, Shared Services or Finance functions
  • 3+ years of managing a successful third-party off-shore transactional outsourcing relationship
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and applicable international accounting standards, experience supporting indirect and direct tax compliance requirements and understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley controls/requirements
  • Relentless commitment to drive process improvement through standardization and optimization of processes including leveraging technology solutions to automate processes
  • Experience with designing and implementing a consistent global operating model for record-to-report responsibilities and//or overseeing a record-to-report organization, either at the global or regional level
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to professional and service delivery excellence
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical matters and issue resolution management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels both within and outside the organization
  • Self-starter that works well in a team environment
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP, HFM, Blackline and/or an automated accounting system
  • Experience with statutory reporting responsibilities of regional accounting centers of excellence to assist with direct / indirect tax compliance and reporting matters 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s in Finance, Accounting or Business with relevant experience.
  • Advanced certification (e.g. CPA, etc.) a plus, but not required
  • Big 4 public accounting experience a plus
  • Public company experience a plus
  • Prior experience as a regional controller or part of a regional accounting center of excellence
  • Experience working for a consumer products organization
  • Six Sigma or Lean Sigma Certification

Working Relationships

  • Reports into the Chief Accounting Officer
  • Position will be working with North America and Latin America management as well as other internal customers within Commercial , Procurement, HR, IT and other functions within Finance
  • Partners with Internal and external audit as well as external reporting
  • Will have direct reports
  • Collaborates with other regional controllers as well as the Director of R2R

Work Environment

  • Travel required up to 25% including international locations including but not limited to Colombia, Mexico and India (3rd party BPO delivery center)
  • Hybrid environment with Tuesday and Wednesday in the office and more frequently during the monthly close and reporting cycles as well as special projects

The salary range for this position is $192,000 - $288,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
