Associate Packaging Engineer - Pack Ops

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to our Manager of Packaging Development, you will work to develop promotional, display & e-commerce packaging for the brands assigned of Edgewell's personal care products. The associate packaging engineer is responsible to support innovation, cost savings, sustainability initiatives and business continuity projects.
This position will serve as a contributing member of cross functional business teams. Support the development and feasibility of product concepts. The individual will monitor progress against timelines and due dates as well as provide guidance and coaching to those assigned on a project basis.
This opportunity will have a hybrid schedule (Tues, Wed, Thurs) at our Shelton, CT headquarters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage assigned package development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project ship to trade dates
- Hold discussions during product team meetings; communicate technical issues and details to the project team and management
- Provide packaging options. Develop, engineer, and test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet: consumer requirements, functional parameters, cost targets and manufacturing & shipping requirements
- Provide technical input to package design process and assure package designed for manufacturing acceptability, while realizing desirable aesthetic elements
- Execute new package designs and perform package component testing and qualification, working with suppliers, from engineering prints to making models & prototypes, through to unit and production tooling
- Work effectively with Package Engineering, Suppliers, and Manufacturing to ensure the creation of timely functional specifications
- Keep abreast of developments across appropriate packaging and manufacturing technologies
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effective verbal / written communication, interpersonal. Ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical information via verbal presentations and in writing
- Must be capable of quickly establishing relationships both internally and externally
- Must exhibit a true sense of urgency in responding to customers
- Must be able to communicate issues effectively to technical and non-technical personnel. (Brand, Finance, Creative, Manufacturing)
- Travel domestically and internationally as required on assigned projects. Travel requirements are 10 to 20% per month, which may include overnight travel, local travel to Allendale, NJ, Shelton, CT, and Dover, DE, as well as other manufacturing and contract manufacturing and component manufacturing sites
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS in Mechanical, Package or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- Minimum of 1 years of package development experience preferred, ideally with consumer products companies.
- Knowledge of packaging components and properties such as; aerosols, pumps, closures, bottles, tubes, flexible films and lamination, paperboard (folding cartons, cards, labels) plastic processing (injection and extrusion blow molding and cast and blown films
- Experience dealing with packaging component suppliers, standard test methods as ASTM, GMPs OTC test and protocols
- Must be able to effectively organize and manage workflow of multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment
- Must have good aesthetic “innovative” design skills.
- Must have the ability to develop and implement schedules and ensure that engineering procedures are followed.
- Must have the ability to evaluate design concepts and prove out feasibility.
- Must have the ability to manage assigned projects, monitoring the status of all elements affecting the outcome of the program
- Good computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent organizational, prioritizing, problem-solving and follow up skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously
The salary range for this position is $60,000–$90,000. Compensation for this position varies based on a range of equal opportunity factors, including but not limited to role scope, level of experience, relevant skills, education and credentials, external and internal benchmarks for equivalent roles and experience, business sector, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are based on the specific facts and circumstances of each case. In addition to base salary, the total rewards package may also include, for eligible roles, bonus, and long-term Incentive.
