Assignment Length: January 2020 - August 2020

Position Summary

With moderate supervision, the Co-Op position will assist Scientists in the development of new sun care formulations as well as product improvements. The responsibility of this individual will be to manufacture lab-scale batches of sun care formulas, conduct stability testing, run in vitro tests, and fill products for tests.


  • Perform hands-on formulation bench work to support R&D programs.
  • Perform routine quantitative and qualitative tests, such as formula stability and photochemistry tests.
  • Make accurate and relevant observations about experiments or tests and record them.
  • Participate in training, team meetings and continuous improvement programs.
  • Prepare and track samples, generate, collect, and report data, and compare datasets in accordance with GLP / OTC data documentation best practices.
  • Adhere to laboratory housekeeping, safety, and chemical hygiene standards.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Candidate will work out of the Ormond Beach location but may be asked to visit local 3rd party testing labs.
  • Abide by lab policies and procedures.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Junior/Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a lab-based science such as chemistry, chemical engineering, or biology.

 Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Must have lab experience from school - chemistry preferred with hands-on bench chemistry lab experience. Experience using lab equipment such as hot plate, pH meter, viscometer, lab mixer, and microscope.
  • Familiarity with GMP lab requirements.
  • Some knowledge of cosmetic raw materials & their functionalities and personal care product formulation, such as skin care emulsions.
  • Basic understanding of preservative systems and microbial tests, and their role in product development.
  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices while conducting testing methods and experiments. Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly
  • Good verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interface with contacts at all levels and communicate with technical laboratory regarding projects.
  • Ability to accurately weigh raw materials and follow process directions.
  • Ability to operate instruments according to SOPs and test methods with appropriate training.
  • Solid science and math background.
  • Knowledge of standard business software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and web-based systems.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic understanding of confidentiality practices and maintaining notebooks according to SOPs.
