Business Development Manager, Private Label

Position Summary
Reporting to the Custom Brands Team Lead (Canada), this Manager will collaborate with the wider private Label team globally. The incumbent is accountable for Canadian customer store brand/control/ private label items, with day-to-day responsibility for each customers’ product line and category development involving item set-up through to launch and maintenance of the business as needed. Direct-line communication with all customers and internal teams is crucial while providing strong support and back-up to the Team Lead and Project Manager.
Universal Accountabilities
• Business Goals: Partner with Team Lead to achieve targets. Provide input and analysis of sales, inventory and market dynamics as needed to identify issues and opportunities. Apply category management principles for strategic input to plans that leverage an efficient mix and price structure. Recommend appropriate selection of products that ensure profitability and maximize opportunity at each customer. Assist to develop and initiate customer presentations, provide mock-ups & samples to customers, track quotes, secure listings, update and maintain confidential price list with item details.
• Day-to-Day Customer Requirements: Communicate regularly to pro-actively meet expectations and achieve business goals. Monitor forecast requirements, assist with customer online portal entry (eg technical product and quality data), and industry reporting requirements (eg sustainability). Coordinate with customers for commitment to their promotional requirements within price structures to capture seasonal open stock volume opportunities. Work with internal Packaging group to develop cost efficient PDQ options if required. Maximize understanding of all aspects of customers’ private label objectives and follow up regularly with related administrative tasks. Support customer Brand Managers to gain category approvals and secure timely acceptance for distribution to each banner.
• Build Business Relationships: Establish, build and maintain long-term business relationships with each member of customer teams as appropriate. Customer teams include marketing brand managers, product development and sourcing managers, category teams, graphic, regulatory, labelling and quality teams as well as various special project teams as required. Engage with new members to build rapport quickly, maintain and update contact lists for accurate communication and reference. Attend trade shows and sales meetings as required.
• New Listing Launches / Item Updates: Secure acceptance of quotes in a timely fashion. Initiate internal New Item PromoForm and GoToMarket process, and partner with Custom Brands Project Manager for all product conversion and sku launches. Partner with EPC Art Department to provide die lines, copy documents, images and full art kits to customers in a timely fashion. As the primary contact for each customer launch, oversee execution of item set-up including but not limited to: technical specs, ship specs and full product details in customer portals, industry label standards, graphic artwork review to pre-press approvals, pipefill and ongoing forecasts, first run samples for QA approval, product photography for launch and any other launch plans as customer requires. Allow long lead-time from early set up to first shipments and communicate required timelines in advance to meet customer expectations for launch dates. Monitor for delays and areas to improve timing.
• Global Product Portfolio Development: Represent Canada on Edgewell Custom Brands Global teams for input to research and development of new products, monitor Canadian marketplace and competitors and support business analysis of opportunities for approval to portfolio of products. Review product attributes and claims and partner with marketing services to develop label copy and online content approved for Canada, including translation and to meet regulations. Monitor online content for accuracy.
• Business Administration: Maintain a library of approved Copy documents and digital images for easy reference. Download as needed from US supplied material. Communicate regular forecast updates for all items, provide pipeline forecast and seasonal requirements from customer to Demand Planning. Review forecasts with team members monthly to ensure forecast accuracy. Provide future launch details for production capacity plans.
Specific Accountabilities
• Support Custom Brands Team in achieving annual KFP’s, Sales/Financial goals and Service levels.
• Private Label items require significant details for set-up. This is a multi-faceted, hybrid Sales role often requiring tasks more closely related to other departmental responsibilities. Various additional tasks are expected as they arise. Experience across a wide variety of roles is an asset.
Required Skills and Experience
• University degree with 5 years of proven commercial business experience in CPG including at key account level. Private Label experience is an asset.
• Fast learner with superior organization skills and high sensitivity to protect confidential information
• Ability to successfully negotiate with customers and partners to ensure efficient price and profitability.
• Analytical and strategic thinker with strong problem solving, communication and leadership skills
• An ability to influence decision-makers while balancing strategic and financial priorities.
• Experience with category management theory & analysis & solid understanding of financial analysis.
• Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels both within and outside the organization.
• Ability to communicate effectively including prepare and deliver quality presentations.
• Collaborative individual who thrives in a team-based and multi-faceted environment.
• Proficiency with various software (MS OfficeTeams / Forecasting / Customer Online Portals)
Preferred Skills and Experience
• MBA preferred or significant related private label business experience

INTERNAL: Custom Brands Teams local, USA and Global, Customer Service/Supply Chain, Operations, Marketing Services and Product Development, Sales counterparts, Quality and Market Research, Finance, Forecasting, Regulatory and Legal.
Work Environment
• Ontario permanent Remote within same-day commute distance to Mississauga
• Daytime meetings within Ontario – once weekly / as required
• Limited Overnight travel required - approximately once each quarter
The salary range for this position is 96,000 - 124,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
