POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, you will be responsible for warehouse operations on your shift by managing an hourly workforce which includes planning/scheduling of manpower and equipment, ensuring the health and safety of all colleagues on your shift, and modelling company values and behaviors to ensure colleague engagement and a positive work environment.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Organize, schedule, & staff warehouse to appropriate levels.
  • Organize and assign work to utilize available skills, knowledge and experience, and labor hours to the best advantages to obtain most favorable costs, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings, communicating appropriate safety and operational messages.
  • Assign daily work duties to hourly colleagues ensuring safety, service, productivity and reliability requirements are met.
  • Maintain safety, security, housekeeping, and sanitation programs.
  • Maintain and audit weekly payroll entries for hourly workers.
  • Provide training, support, and direction to employees to ensure understanding of and adherence to SOP’s.
  • Communicate across Warehouse, Transportation and Customer Service departments regarding possible issues impacting on-time delivery.
  • Perform supervisory functions which includes follow up with hourly colleagues to hold them accountable through either recognition & discipline.
  • Demonstrate leadership through effective teamwork and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the company.
  • Participate in training, inspection, investigation and continuous improvement programs.
  • Ensure compliance with industry, company, and sanitation standards.
  • Assist in the hiring process which includes interviewing potential employees.
  • Maintain attendance, productivity information and employee performance logs.
  • Monitor supplies and direct replenishment efforts as needed.
  • Ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition and coordinate repairs.
  • Support and guide growth and development of colleagues.
  • Ensure well thought out and timely performance evaluations.
  • Address performance issues and consult with HR / Management as needed.
  • Establish and maintain high personal involvement, accessibility, and visibility to distribution employees.
  • Actively participate in organizational culture initiatives creating a culture conducive to higher engagement and retention.

 

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • University degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a plant or warehouse environment, with at least 3-5 years successfully managing a team.
  • Well versed in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, WSIB, Employment Standards Act, and any other relevant provincial legislation.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate and inspire the hourly workforce.
  • Ability to balance strategic and financial factors and priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strategic, results oriented analytical thinker.
  • Strong change management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels both within and outside the organization.
  • Collaborative individual who thrives in a team-based environment.
  • Proficiency with various computer software programs.
