Position Summary

The Senior Automation Engineer supports business needs as outlined by the Sr. Manager.  You will work to design, build, test and implement medium to high volume automated assembly and packaging equipment, including robotics-enhancements, in support of new programs development, operations, or other applications where appropriate.


Universal Accountabilities

The essential accountability of this position is to design, build, test and implement automation and robotics in support of new program development and Operations.

This colleague is accountable for:

  • The successful development and implementation of automation and robotic systems in support of new programs, cost improvement programs and operations
  • Designing and detailing end of arm tooling
  • Designing and detailing automation cells which utilize various feeding, assembly and packaging technology
  • Programming and debugging robots
  • Provide technical support
  • Managing projects that may involve outside vendors
  • Documenting supporting data such as run time, COGS, and capital expenditure
  • Documenting training and installation plans as well as required TPM



Specific Accountabilities

  • The location of work is primarily at Edgewell Personal Care facility in Milford, CT, and may vary at times to include other Edgewell facilities and / or Edgewell contracted facilities as necessary.
  • Job function is Automation Engineering and can include Robotics
  • Work may support R&D, Engineering, and Operations
  • Additional duties may also be performed as assigned


Required Skills and Experience

  • Formal education and experience in Science based field:
    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation/Systems Engineering with 7+ years’ work experience, or
    • An advanced degree in Science or Engineering with 3+ years experience.
  • Demonstrated skills to include:
    • Proficiency with CAD systems
    • Experience with sensors, motors, PLC’s, vision systems and robotics
    • Assembly tool design
    • Project management skills such as budgeting, resource management, timeline management and reporting.
    • Self-motivated and ability to take initiative, think and work independently
    • Ability to manage different tasks simultaneously
    • Strong teamwork and communication
    • Good documentation practices of any records and data and drawings
    • Inquisitive personality and willingness to work outside of their comfort zone


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Solidworks modeling and simulation including FEA, CFD, and Machinery Optimization
  • Sensors and Data Acquisition systems, preferably National Instruments related products
  • PLC, 3 Phase Power, pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Experience with SCARA, Collaborative and Multiaxis robots
  • Experience with Robotic Safety protocols and ergonomics a plus but not required
  • Experience in a corporate environment.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, LEAN and other manufacturing/process improvement techniques

Work Environment

  • 15% travel may be required.
  • The position will be stationed in an office environment, however, it should be expected that 40% of the time will be spent in a manufacturing setting.
  • There may be some exposure to conditions that require specialized training and the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
