Position Summary:
Under the direction of the packaging manager, works with minimal oversight to develop packaging solutions for Edgewell’ s personal care product portfolio in Wet Shave (Razors & Blades) packaging. This individual will be the lead packaging engineer in support of major package system changes, material changes, and supply base changes in effort to reduce total cost of goods while still satisfying our customers. This position will serve as a key contributing member on cross functional business teams and support the development of product/package ideas from exploration through feasibility and ultimately implementation. The individual must be a self-starter who will monitor progress against timelines and deliverable due dates.
- A senior member of the Packaging Engineering team that will partner with both internal and external customers, to ensure that we meet all packaging requirements.
- Will lead Innovation effort from Concept ideation to implementation.
- A fast-paced position that will participate in a wide array of packaging events that highlight the ability to problem solve, develop technical reports, and present information.
- Will lead projects and assist in root cause investigations when necessary.
- May have the opportunity to lead Packaging team members (both internal & external to your group).
- Will act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on projects.
- Considered a Subject Matter Expert of packaging materials, tooling, and equipment in Milford facility.
- Will utilize appropriate investigative tools & test results, good engineering designs, and GMP’s when investigating issues and recommending corrective actions.
Essential Functions:
- Develop, engineer, test packaging components and modify as necessary to meet consumer requirements, functional parameters, costing targets, manufacturing & shipping requirements.
- Execute new packaging structures/formats from concept through qualification working with internal teams and suppliers.
- Provide packaging options and risk mitigation strategies associated with each.
- Provide technical input to package design process and assure packages are designed for manufacturability, while realizing desirable aesthetic elements.
- Be accountable for meeting all assigned Packaging Engineering deliverables.
- Ensure the quality of packaging produced is consistent with EPC Quality standards.
- Work with manager to ensure the Packaging development process is functioning efficiently by assessing current processes and identifying ways to streamline or improve.
- Support appropriate product development and quality related projects: both internal and with external suppliers.
- Ability to effectively communicate with cross functional groups located both internally and externally.
- Creates and presents reports for management, and other internal groups. Reports include trips, supplier audits, and project status.
- Support investigation of consumer complaints (customer/consumer) to meet applicable standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrates ability to problem solve and troubleshoot in an automated production environment.
- Ability to use data and packaging engineering tools to support recommendations.
- Ability to effectively interact with equipment/tooling vendors, contract manufacturers, suppliers, and cross functional teams relative to packaging challenges.
- Ability to write, review, revise and implement Packaging SOP’s.
- Ability to write, review, revise and approve New Packaging specifications, Bill of Materials, Packaging Assembly Specs.

- Capable of working in Production environment with Mechanics and line personel.
- Ability to develop and execute innovative solutions for new cost savings ideas. Highly analytical and skilled in achieving operational efficiencies and committed to quality. Capable of seeing the big picture.
- Must have the ability to develop new innovative lower cost solutions and conduct feasibility analysis with the goal of recommending projects to implement.
- Must be familiar with various manufacturing processes and assembly methods, decoration methods, monolayer and multi-layer film processing knowledge a plus.
- Must have the ability to evaluate designs concepts and prove out feasibility.
- Must have the ability to manage third party relationships (e.g. outside design consultants, suppliers, certification organizations, etc.)
- Effective verbal / written communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills. Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels. Ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical information via verbal presentations and in writing.
- Must be a highly credible individual capable of rapid engagement, and of bridging relationships between R&D, Operations, and other functional areas.
- Must be capable of quickly establishing relationships both internally and externally, and at all levels.
- Excellent negotiating and influencing skills, and capable of working across multiple functional areas, with a true sense of urgency in responding to delivering on challenges.
- Good computer skills. Proficiency with Word, Excel, SAP/PLM, TOPS/CAPE, Blue, e-mail, and internet applications.

Project Management Skills:

- Must have the ability to guide laboratory support personnel as required to accomplish a task.
- Must have the ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical information via verbal presentation and in writing with management, team members and support personnel with normal supervision.
Preferred/Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with Packaging Equipment (e.g. developing equipment requirements and parameter settings, conducting FAT’s & Qualification processes).
- Working knowledge SAP, procurement systems, and Purchase Order & Approval System.
Experience/Education Required:
- BS or MS in Package or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree.
- A minimum of 7 years of package Development and Operations experience required, ideally with consumer products companies.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of packaging processes like: thermoforming, flow wrapping, heat sealing, and components like: corrugated/fluted board, bending chipboard, paperboard, flexible films (laminated and mono-layer printed films), cartons, hot melt, paperboard (folding cartons, cards, labels), and corrugated.
- Experience with standard test methods as ASTM Ship Testing, Environmental, hang hole testing, and specific customer tests like Wal-Mart Tote, Amazon eComm, and WMU Recyclability certification testing and protocols.
Work Environment:
- Travel domestically and internationally as required on assigned projects. Travel requirements are 5 to 10% per month, which may include overnight travel, local travel to Shelton, Allendale NJ, Dover, DE as well as other manufacturing, contract manufacturing and component manufacturing sites.
The salary range for this position is $84,000 - $120,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
