Position Summary

The Research Co-op provides a broad range of technical support to several engineers and scientists primarily in the Schick Research department. This support can be in the form of idea contributions, problem solving, analytical software generation ex.  MatLab or LabView, data gathering, running experiments, CAD (SolidWorks) and a wide range of mechanical or biomedical skills. The Research Co-op assignments require the co-op to move freely through the majority of departments located in our main plant and both Commerce drive locations.


Dates: End of May through End of December, 2019


Eligibility: Juniors or Seniors


Universal Accountabilities

  • The general task duties for this job is to interact with several Research engineers and scientists, receive assignments, complete those assignments and deliver the required data
  • Work individually and in a team environment, includes cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with lab personal, co-ops, scientist, engineers and management to accomplish designated projects
  • Apply problem-solving skills to resolve scientific and engineering issues
  • Receive training on desired equipment and safety regulations
  • Create detailed reports and presentations on work completed, this includes keeping a lab log book during the co-op period. Present results as required to engineers and related teams.


Specific Accountabilities

  • The Research co-op will work out of the main Milford plant as well as 50 & 60 Commerce drive buildings


Required Skills and Experience

  • Junior or Senior Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable of 3D CAD programs like SolidWorks
  • Divergent thinker with broad interest in science and technology
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work in a project team environment
  • All candidates must be currently eligible to work in the U.S. and provide proper documentation to substantiate


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Hands on experience beyond university classes ex. Hobbies that require a mechanical aptitude
  • Past work experience in industry
  • Requires little or no supervision after proper training and explanation of responsibilities
  • Owns a valid driver’s license


Working Relationships

  • Candidate will interact with a variety of colleagues including lab partners, engineers, scientists, administrators, managers and directors as well as fellow co-ops, health care providers and security personnel


Work Environment

  • Travel Requirements – Occasional travel between Milford plant and Commerce drive (also in Milford)
  • General physical requirements include maintaining a workstation with a desktop computer and move between departments locations
  • Report any health and safety issues to supervisor or colleagues
  • Standard 1st Shift
  • Follow all Lab and equipment safety regulations and always use of Personal Protective Equipment as required
