Position Summary

The R&D Intern provides a broad range of technical support to several engineers and scientists primarily in the Schick Research department. This support can be in the form of idea contributions, problem solving, analytical software generation ex.  MatLab or LabView, data gathering, running experiments, CAD (SolidWorks) and a wide range of mechanical and biomedical skills. The Research Co-op assignments require the co-op to move freely through the majority of departments located in our main plant and both Commerce drive locations.

Universal Accountabilities

  • The general task duties for this job is to interact with several Research engineers and scientists, receive assignments, complete those assignments and deliver the required data
  • Work individually and in a team environment, includes cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with lab personal, co-ops, scientist, engineers and management to accomplish designated projects
  • Apply problem-solving skills to resolve scientific and engineering issues
  • Receive training on desired equipment and safety regulations
  • Create detailed reports and presentations on work completed,

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • The Research intern will work out of the main Milford, CT plant.

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Materials Science, Engineering or other physical sciences

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Hands on experience beyond university classes ex. Hobbies that require a mechanical aptitude
  • Requires little or no supervision after proper training and explanation of responsibilities
  • Divergent thinker with broad interest in science and technology
  • Technical problem solving and troubleshooting of custom lab equipment
  • Proficient in Windows applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work in a project team environment

 

Working Relationships

  • Candidate will interact with a variety of colleagues including lab partners, engineers, scientists, administrators, managers and directors , health care providers and security personnel

 

Work Environment

  • Travel Requirements – none
  • General physical requirements include maintaining a workstation with a desktop computer and move between departments locations
  • Report any health and safety issues to supervisor or colleagues
  • Standard 1st Shift
  • Follow all Lab and equipment safety regulations and always use of Personal Protective Equipment as required
