Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Packaging Development, works to develop packaging solutions for the brands assigned in Edgewell’s personal care product portfolio, initially primary and secondary packaging development for our Men's Grooming brands (Jack Black, Bull Dog and Cremo). In addition, this position will support Edgewell’s Package Sustainability effort globally. This will include developing sustainability roadmaps and solutions to meet EPC’s package sustainability goals. This individual will support new product Launches, regional commercial launches, cost savings and base business continuity projects.

Accountabilities
|
- Manages assigned Package Development projects, working with Brand and project teams, to meet category objectives and project ship to trade dates.
- Develops, engineers, and tests packaging components and modify as necessary to meet consumer requirements, functional parameters, costing targets, manufacturing & shipping requirements. Uses data and packaging tools to support recommendations. Will lead projects and assist in root cause investigations.
- Executes new package designs and performs package component testing and qualification, working with suppliers, from engineering prints to models & prototypes, through to unit and production tooling. Provides packaging options and risk mitigation strategies associated with each design.
- Provides technical input to package design process and assure package designed for manufacturing acceptability, while realizing desirable aesthetic elements. Conducts and reports results of line and qualification trials for components and finished goods production.
- Demonstrates ability to problem solve and troubleshoot in an automated production environment. Communicates technical issues and details to the project team and management.
- Utilizes appropriate investigative tools (i.e. test results), good engineering design principles, and GMP’s when investigating issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Works with manager to ensure the Packaging development process is functioning efficiently by assessing current processes and identifying ways to streamline or improve.
- Supports product development and quality related projects with internal functional partners and external suppliers.
- Creates and presents reports for management and other internal groups. Reports include trip, supplier audit, and current status.
- Supports investigation of consumer complaints (customer/consumer) to meet applicable standard operating procedures.
- Writes, reviews, revises and approves New Packaging specifications, Bill Of Materials, Packaging Assembly Specs.

Required Education, Skills and Experience
- BS in Packaging Engineering or related engineering field.
- 3 years minimum experience working in a packaging related field, ideally with consumer products companies.

Desirable Education, Skills and Experience
|
- Knowledge of packaging components and properties such as; Paperboard (folding cartons, cards, labels), flexible films and lamination, blisters, clamshells, bottles, pumps, closures, tubes and plastic processing (injection and extrusion blow molding and cast and blown films.
- Project Management Experience and structured problem solving; Validation; DOE; Root Cause Analysis
- Demonstrated performance as a Packaging Engineer with excellent leadership potential
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal to both internal and external stakeholders
- Good computer skills – Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, CAD a plus
- Experience presenting project plans to Senior Management
- Leading and collaborating with Global cross-functional teams
- Good problem solving and time Management skills
- Working knowledge of purchasing of packaging components
- Knowledge of Validation of packaging requirements in related industry
- Experience in an FDA related regulated products a plus

- Close relationships required with Product Development, Procurement, Operations, Commercial team, Consumer Affairs, Reliability Engineering, Corporate Quality, Legal, Regulatory and R&D
- External engagement will include Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers

Work Environment

- Preference towards Hybrid availability - 2-3 days in the office (Milford, CT or Shelton, CT
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time (line trials, auditing)
- Ability and willingness to travel, as in the execution of the duties of this position the employee may travel up to approximately 20%, or slightly more, of their work time
- Work schedules may vary from typical business hours
- Exposure to health risks or conditions that may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment
