  1. POSITION IN ORGANIZATION

 

        a.     Reports To:                 Quality Manager or Engineer

        c.     Indirectly Supervises:  None

     

  1. PURPOSE OF POSITION

 

Responsible for qualification, calibration, & maintenance of all production gauging at the facility.

 

  1.     ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND PROCEDURES:

     

  1. Set-up, operate, repair, and calibrate equipment as required.  Examples:  Hardness & crossbreak testers, gauge blocks, electronic indicators, video inspection systems, 100X-400X-Toolmaker microscopes, angle, sharpness testers, camber gauges, comparators, Keyence gauges etc.
  2. Work with calibration management software, Gauge Trak, to schedule and complete calibrations.
  3. Coordinate with vendors to calibrate measurement equipment outside plant capabilities.
  4. Generate and maintain qualification and calibration records.
  5. Assist with transfer of plant gauging to and from Vendors.
  6. Write work instructions for specific gauging that are easy to understand.
  7. Train and certify colleagues in the proper operation of gauging and instrumentation.
  8. Coordinate with vendors or personally perform repairs required to maintain equipment.
  9. Monitor gauging trends and develop corrective actions for repeat issues.
  10. Perform periodic R&R and correlation studies on existing measurement equipment.
  11. Program and modify existing programs in precision measuring equipment (Smartscope, Tira, Keyence)
  12. Order and maintain a supply of materials necessary to perform assigned duties.
  13. Provide Quality support to operations, engineering in root cause analysis.
  14. Participate in equipment validation.
  15. Document equipment validation utilizing QER format.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

IV.   PRE-QUALIFICATIONS

 

    • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MiniTab and gauge management software.
    • General working knowledge of Statistical principles.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Must be available for some travel to other manufacturing sites as required.
    • Previous experience with gauging and calibration required.
    • Previous Quality experience required.
    • Capable of self-directed work.

 

V.     EDUCATION

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree / some college preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Calibration Technician desired.

 

 

VII.    SKILL

 

  • Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process controls.
  • Broad knowledge of ISO 9001:2015
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills required.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and understand tolerancing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of calibration & maintenance procedures for gauges, test fixtures/equipment, etc.
  • Teamwork/collaborative style a must.
  • Ability and knowledge to utilize standard testing and measurement devices.
  • Follow safe practices, report unsafe conditions, read MDS before working with chemicals.
