The Technical Superintendent provides technical expertise and leadership necessary to improve the performance of plant process equipment through the application of appropriate reliability tools such as root cause failure analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance techniques, identification of and resolution of inefficiencies through analysis of performance data and relevant trends, implementation of procedures, processes and training that promote continuous improvement and through active participation in project development. The Technical Superintendent will lead and develop the maintenance departmental colleagues from shop floor activities to improving systems and processes.


Specific Accountabilities

  • Supervision and direct responsibility of approximately 30 Maintenance colleagues.
  • Identifies opportunities for making reliability improvements to eliminate or reduce downtime.
  • Identifies critical equipment and develops reliability strategies for this equipment using MTBF.
  • Reviews equipment specs/designs to ensure equipment can meet reliability objectives.
  • Establishes maintenance metrics and goals based on world class maintenance standards.
  • Develops, documents, evaluates, and maintains equipment maintenance history.
  • Reviews, supports, and improves preventative and predictive programs and practices.
  • Consistent engagement with the Operations daily performance and objectives.
  • Champions reliability efforts through training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Effectively promotes a Safety First culture by engaging all maintenance colleagues in safety initiatives and programs.


Required Skills and Experience

  • BS degree in engineering, Mechanical preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience of maintenance, preferably in a High Speed manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to apply working knowledge of Predictive & Preventive Maintenance techniques for equipment in order to improve performance, eliminate or reduce downtime in the operational environment.
  • Capable of recommending and establishing solutions to address identified weaknesses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop working relationships on all levels.
  • Ability to work on many projects in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced computer skills including CMMS and MS Office.


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing tools and techniques. 
  • Experience in a cGMP and OSHA compliant manufacturing environment.


Working Relationships

  • Works closely with all Operations colleagues to resolve equipment, process and downtime issues.
  • Reports to Sr. Technical Manager. Internal relationships critical to this position are Operations Supervision, Operations Technicians, Electronic Technicians, MRO colleagues. External engagement will include Equipment OEM’s, Machine shops and Maintenance training providers.

Work Environment

  • Some travel may be required, mostly stateside.
  • Physical requirements may include sitting, bending, stooping, climbing and standing for extended periods of time. Some hands-on mechanical maintenance, for the purpose of teaching colleagues only.
  • Work schedule is day shift, but may require weekend or off-shift supervision.
  • Personal Protective Equipment as required by OSHA regulations and EPC policies - Maintenance and Electrical PPE, Safety glasses, Safety Shoes, etc.
