Position Summary

The Senior Operations Manager oversees all aspects of the operation from incoming warehousing, scheduling, production and training.  This position is responsible to ensure efficient operation in terms of safety, quality, cost and delivery.  This position is also responsible for leading employee engagement efforts to promote a positive, empowered and growth oriented culture.

 

Specific Accountabilities

  • Provides strategic direction and leadership of manufacturing operations in order to achieve the objectives of the plant.
  • Provides direction to the Scheduling Manager.  Collaborates with the scheduling manager and marketing teams to develop strategies to utilize current assets to maximize output and future sales.
  • Provides direction to the Operations Manager and Warehouse Manager:
    • Ensures that all operations are conducted safely and in accordance with regulations on safety and the environment.
    • Ensures consistency of evaluations aligned with Pay for Performance philosophies.
  • Provides direction to the Process Engineering team and helps them to identify areas of improvement based on data.
  • Provides direction to the Training Team.  Develop and implement a Training Strategy for the plant that improves training effectiveness and colleague experience during training.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Department to lead and develop organization strategies to improve colleague engagement, development and retention.
  • Remove roadblocks as necessary for direct reports and empower their decision making.
  • Works closely with direct reports and Finance to develop and monitor budgets, expenses and control costs. Takes informed financial and operational decisions to positively affect the short and long term objectives of the plant.
  • Stimulates, generates and follows up on cost reduction projects.  Administers programs to control and improve CIP performance.
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Quality and R & D staff departments on product and process development or improvement and provides key recommendations and steering based on overall knowledge.  Contributes to the development of and concurs with committal responses to product feasibility inquiries in regards to cost, timing and manufacturability.
  • Develops and implements capacity plans and Capital Spending plans to provide operating departments with capital equipment necessary for production and to provide systematic cost improvements.
  • Administers within the respective manufacturing area all applicable Corporate and Government policies and regulations pertaining to safety, environmental matters, Affirmative Action and EEO issues, and the disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Supports actively safety and health committees and follows up on approved recommendations. Keeps abreast of accident and illness trends in his/her area, and takes corrective action to reverse these trends.

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • B.S. in Engineering or Business with related technical courses.
  • Ability to plan and control the administrative and financial operation of a multi-department manufacturing area.
  • Requires overall knowledge and understanding of manufacturing, assembly, tooling, processing, and financial systems.
  • Developed administrative, supervisory and communication skills.
  • Minimum of six years of related experience.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in an FDA or ISO regulated environment
  • MBA degree
  • Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies

 

Working Relationships

  • Requires heavy contact with key personnel in nearly all other manufacturing and support areas.  Often decisions are made through contacts with other area/function managers or higher levels of management.  Other areas included, but not limited to, are Marketing, Planning, R&D, Quality, Maintenance and Engineering.  Contacts with suppliers, contractors, and professional or technical service groups as required to fulfill position responsibilities. 
  • Directly supervises 3 to 8 exempt colleagues.
  • Proven ability to develop long-term plans and implement projects (both technical and non-technical) to achieve the objectives in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Proven abilty to develop and engage high performing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and use financial analysis to make informed decisions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent presentation skills and written communications.
  • Provide excellent interpersonal communication skills.
     
     

Work Environment

  • Travel requirements limited
  • Work schedule will typically be during day shift.  Some variation of those hours may be required periodically for projects, communication meetings and/or emergency situations.
