Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer provides the technical expertise and leadership necessary to improve the performance of plant process equipment through the application of appropriate tools and resources.   Process improvements will be accomplished through the identification of the key critical parameters and then working to control and reduce the variation.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Accountable for key performance indicators of defined assets including quality, safety, productivity, waste, cost and employee development.
  • Drive efficiency improvement by applying process improvement tools including statistical process control, process mapping, control charts, LEAN manufacturing waste elimination studies and process capability studies
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for making equipment and reliability improvements, developing applicable strategies and action plans, and following through on project implementation through the utilization of appropriate resources and tools.
  • Define and develop process opportunities to reduce costs and to maximize productivity.
  • Work with R&D and process engineering to maintain operational requirements in conjunction with material supplier capabilities.
  • Define key critical parameters and develop plans to control and improve.
  • Carries out life cycle cost analyses to determine the most cost-effective strategy/option.
  • Develop, document, evaluate, and maintain equipment maintenance strategies.
  • Develop, review, support, and improve preventative and predictive programs and practices.
  • Champion reliability efforts through training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Work closely with Engineering and OEM’s to design reliability into new equipment.
  • Work with R&D and project management to implement new raw material or products.
  • Accountable for all quality assurance related tasks on his assigned line (i.e., Change control, CAPA, Failure investigation, etc… )

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS degree in Engineering, or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 3 or more years of engineering experience with operations of high-speed process equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of system reliability, availability, and maintainability to predict and verify equipment performance in the operational environment.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and information-gathering skills.
  • Capable of recommending and establishing solutions to address identified weaknesses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships on all levels.
  • Ability to work on many projects in a high-speed environment.
  • Operational computer skills including MS Office and AutoCAD / SolidWorks.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with high-speed converting operations.
  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing tools and techniques. 
  • Experience in a cGMP-compliant manufacturing environment (medical device).
  • Experience in machinery relocation and start-ups.

 

Working Relationships

  • Reports to Technical Manager. Key relationships internally will include Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance & Planning/Scheduling departments and their colleagues.

 

Work Environment

  • Travel requirements may vary from several days per year to several weeks, as required for training and projects.
  • Position may require bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • The work schedule will typically be during the day shift.  Some variation of those hours may be required periodically for projects and/or emergency situations.

 

The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $102,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
