This position will lead Category Development responsibilities through the analysis of Syndicated POS and Panel data in combination with consumer/shopper insights and industry trends to help drive strategic growth for the Edgewell business at Kroger. The Category Development Manager is responsible for strategy development, planning and implementing Category Management initiatives to maximize business goals for volume and share.

This position will be able to understand and anticipate category consumer demand to maximize the growth of our categories (Wet Shave, Sun Care, Fem Care, Hand Hygiene and Grooming) at Kroger in total and by segment. This will be done by identifying and making recommendations to capitalize on category opportunities and/or challenges in the following areas:


  1. Develop POG recommendations that make the shopping experience simple for the shopper by using current merchandising principals, Kroger strategic direction and areas of focus, operational efficiency requirements, and shopper research learnings.
  2. Financial modeling based on add/delete recommendations and source of volume assumptions.
  3. Weekly tracking of sales volume, panel metrics, ratings reviews, etc. as needed and required by Kroger
  4. Validation of decisions being made throughout the assortment / POG reset process.


In addition, this role will be responsible for supporting our sales team within the Military channel through ad hoc reporting, business reviews and providing insights and sales trends to help identify opportunities and grow the Edgewell business within this channel.



  1. Own reporting and sharing of trends related to 4 P’s across Edgewell’s businesses within Kroger including competitive environment
  2. Support Sales team in reporting/analyzing business trends, developing presentations and internal/external reporting within following areas:
    1. Status meetings with Kroger category managers
    2. Category and assortment review meetings
    3. Quarterly JBP meetings
    4. Annual business planning meetings
    5. Promotional review
    6. Overall category/business topline reviews and other ad hoc reporting as needed
  3. Act as category expert by objectively delivering Category Development principles and solutions to Kroger through use of customer internal scan and loyalty data (84.51), IRI, industry studies and custom consumer/shopper research. 
  4. Collaborate and co-manage broker team that helps support Edgewell’s Kroger business by
    1. Including broker colleagues in all team meetings
    2. Providing training/information on Edgewell brands as needed
    3. Delegation of tasks needed to complete assignments including, but not limited to, customer presentations, promotion analysis, Kroger POS/loyalty/panel reporting through 84.51, weekly toplines and other ad hoc reporting needed to address business objectives
  5. Provide thought leadership in identifying business opportunities with Kroger by leveraging consumer and shopper insights
  6. Support category growth through the application of the most recent sales technologies including shelf management tools such as JDA, Kroger POS/Panel applications (IRI Gateway and 84.51 including Market 6 and Stratum), Point of Sale systems (IRI), Assortment Tool (IRI) and Panel (Numerator) with emphasis on category growth solution-based selling.
    1. Demonstrate expertise in category management and efficient assortment to Kroger.
    2. Be proficient in interpreting data points as well as shopper and consumer research to drive category solutions development with Kroger.
  7. Lead monthly meetings/calls between Edgewell’s Kroger sales team and 84.51 support team as well as monthly meetings/calls between Edgewell’s Kroger branded and Private Brands teams to discuss category trends and insights.
  8. Actively engage and participate in all team calls and discussions within Edgewell Kroger team and/or with cross-functional Edgewell teams
  9. Develop and strengthen Kroger relationships through objective presentation and active participation in ongoing meetings with Kroger category managers and other contacts including, but not limited to, Assortment and P-O-G reviews by delivering objective value-added insights and recommendations to grow the category and Edgewell brands. 



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Nielsen/IRI, JDA (space management tool) and database management.
    • Clear understanding of how to pull data from Nielsen AOD or IRI Unify Platform (Syndicated POS), HH Panel and Retailer POS & Loyalty data.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, uncover root causes of trends and deliver concise action-oriented recommendations on findings.
  • High attention to details.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop category stories leveraging consumer and shopper knowledge (Kantar, Mintel, etc.).
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative shopper and consumer insight surveys and how to apply to business case scenarios.
  • Proven ability of being able to establish and maintain effective relationships with the customer, gain their trust and respect.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to be objective and think strategically.
  • Able to work independently and to plan, organize and set/achieve priorities.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
    • Capable of understanding the objective and delivering a clear presentation that can be shared without your presence.
  • Previous Kroger and/or Food channel category management experience.
