Jack Black, the #1 Prestige Men’s skincare brand in the U.S., was acquired in March 2018 by Edgewell Personal Care Inc. (EPC), owners of Schick, Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropic, and Playtex.  The Jack Black Quality leader will be based on Coppell, Tx.


The primary responsibility will be to manage all activities relative to Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, and Quality Systems for the Jack Black business.  The incumbent will ensure continued compliance to all applicable regulations, maintain all operations in full inspection-ready fashion, foster a mindset of continuous quality improvement, optimize quality systems, and be a leading voice in sustaining a culture of excellence.



Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that quality systems and evidence of control are in place for the products manufactured externally and distributed through Jack Black and retailer directed distribution channels to meet all relevant Jack Black/EPC product, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all operations are supported by compliant and efficient quality systems such that all operations are in a continuous state of control.  Anticipate potential problems and put proactive measures in place to prevent them.
  • Implement quality risk management approaches that are prudent and supported by sound scientific and technical rationales.
  • Champion the quality culture and seek to build outstanding partnerships with operations, supply chain, regulatory, commercial, and other functions based on mutual candor and continual bidirectional learning.


  • Plan and implement Quality strategies, policies and objectives in accordance with Company strategic plans.  Lead the building of these strategies and objectives for the Jack Black organization, and be the voice of quality for the organization, actively communicating the vision and approach for quality assurance to both management and employees.
  • Ensure validations and initial/ ongoing product approvals meet applicable regulatory retailer and Jack Black/EPC requirements.
  • Ensure documented evidence is available to demonstrate that products meet release criteria through systems development, execution and monitoring at manufacturing locations
  • Identify and Ensure appropriate quality performance measures are implemented and reported as required.
  • Ensure product quality complaints are logically investigated in a timely fashion, and where appropriate, that effective root cause investigations are made and applicable CAPAs are put in place.
  • Prioritize and direct the work of the staff and communicate timetables and standards of excellence regularly to ensure commitments are met.
  • Develop personnel: set performance expectations and coach to help achieve goals. Assist in staffing group with appropriate talent and skills to meet work requirements and establish development plans for medium to long term colleague growth to support the organizational strategy
  • Prepare and manage the departmental budget.


Span of functions under the incumbent’s span of authority:

  • Quality Assurance
  • Quality Control
  • QC Inspectors
  • Internal Audit/Self-Inspection
  • External audit, 3rd party audit and special focus on contract manufacturers/ suppliers
  • Regulation based (21CFR210/211) oversight of external manufacturing and distribution



Experience/Education Required:

  • Minimum B.S. or B.A. – Science or Engineering Degree Preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within a manufacturing facility.
  • Minimum 10 years of Quality experience in an FDA regulated setting, including at the management level.
  • Minimum of 3 experiences directly leading an FDA inspection.
  • Prior supervisory experience. The ability to accurately forecast human resource needs and staff requirements. Strong coaching, mentoring and leadership development skills.
  • Expert knowledge of CFR 210/211 and adverse event reporting requirements. Experience with cosmetic manufacturing and quality expectations is desired.


Skills and Abilities Required:

• Demonstrated proficiency with Quality Systems planning and strategy development.

• A strong record of problem solving and priority setting with strategic and tactical skills in evidence.

• Effective verbal / written communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills. Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels. Ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical information via verbal presentations and in writing.

• Good project management skills.

• Ability to apply statistics and compare data trends.

• Excellent organizational, prioritization skills to successfully handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

• Ability to think and act independently and make sound decisions.

• Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time.

• The position may also require travel to other company locations and to external meetings, vendors, etc.

  • ASQ CQE/ SSBB/ CQM highly desired

• Lean, Six Sigma, certified auditor ASQ SSGB, CQA certifications a plus.
