The Walmart Category Development Team Leader will manage a team of Category Development Managers (CDMs), working collaboratively with Walmart merchant teams to drive category sales and market share growth. This person will be fluent in all category management tools, driving category strategy and growth development processes that enable category growth via actionable insights. The person in this role will lead and develop the Walmart category management team across all categories Edgewell plays in, with some roles being advisor or validator.
This role involves team leadership, mining and analyzing data, validating decisions, and developing strategies to optimize category performance for growth. Prior experience as Category Advisor or Validator mandatory, prior leadership required, and Scintilla and Syndicated data experience required.
This position will report directly to the corporate Director of Category Development with high visibility.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the category development team across all categories by possessing skills in the following to guide the team to effective category growth strategy development and implementation
o Deep category data analysis across multiple data platforms to understand business trends and implications that will input into category strategy, to include but not limited to: Walmart Scintilla, Circana (syndicated and panel), Stackline, Weather Trends, Placer.AI, Commerce IQ
Will drive any improvements in current category reporting suite
o Understand the changing OMNI landscape and how to affect, involving understanding of digital penetration metrics and how to affect OMNI growth through driving shelf and online strategies
o Modular recommendations that simplify the shopping experience for Walmart customers by leveraging current merchandising principles, Walmart’s strategic direction, operational efficiency requirements, and insights from shopper research.
o JDA experience preferred
o Familiar with assortment recommendation drivers to include sku rationalization, transferability and other customer behavior drivers.
• Thought leadership across all categories to include cross functional work with Corporate Category Development, Strategy and Global Consumer Insights
• Own the relationship with Walmart Merchant leadership (DMM level)
• Lead & Develop team of Category Development managers
Preferred Experience/Skills
System / Analytical Skills:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Circana, Scintilla, Retail Link, JDA (space management tool), and Power BI navigation
• Proven analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, uncover root causes of trends and deliver concise action-oriented recommendations on findings.
• High attention to details.
• Demonstrated ability to develop category stories leveraging consumer and shopper knowledge (Kantar, Mintel, etc.).
• Understanding of qualitative and quantitative shopper and consumer insight surveys and how to apply to business case scenarios.
Advisory/Validator Skills:
• Understanding of Walmart’s Advisory Team Principles and how to operate within their expectations of confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong customer relationships, earning trust and respect.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to be objective and think strategically.
• Able to work independently and to plan, organize and set/achieve priorities.
• Excellent presentation skills with keen skill in storytelling
o Capable of understanding the objective and delivering a clear presentation that can be shared without your presence.
Requirements
• 7+ years category management (with at least 2+ years as advisor or validator), 3+ years of people management
The salary range for this position is $128,000- 192,000. Actual base salary offered to a candidate may vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance.
