POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Orchestrate resources to develop and implement best practices and new technologies to deliver on new product programs, and apply formulation experience to new skin care products, particularly in the aerosol field.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Develop and direct product development strategies
  • Manages multiple projects/timelines and develop contingency options
  • Prepare and present effective presentations on project development
  • Document and interpret data to effectively advance projects
  • Effectively manage project interface with Marketing and other external groups
  • Represent company at technical or industry functions
  • Review competitive technical strategies and provide insight into benchmarking initiatives
  • Work with Consumer Insights group to proactively integrate consumer understanding into product development


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 6 years skin care / emulsion experience, ideally within a consumer products environment
  • Strong knowledge of the formulation of sun care/cosmetic products, (O/W emulsions, W/O emulsions, dispersions) including lotions, sprays, gels, sticks.
  • Strong knowledge of raw material functions and properties used in the cosmetic industry.
  • In-depth functional understanding of technical tools that support testing and data management (automated data collection systems, statistical software, Microsoft Office, Product Lifecycle Management, etc.)
  • Basic proficiency in applying methodologies including quantitative and qualitative testing, statistics and design of experiments to answer objectives.
  • Ability to frame consumer needs into actionable studies.
  • Detailed knowledge of all lab equipment and procedures – ability to modify procedures as necessary.
  • Ability to be able to move (push, pull or otherwise manipulate) materials up to 20 lbs. into position
     

 ADDITIONAL / DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • M.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum 4 years skin care / emulsion experience or Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minimum of 2 years skin care / emulsion experience, ideally within a consumer products environment
  • Thorough understanding of developing and launching an OTC type product; familiarity with sunscreen regulatory elements is a plus
  • Experience with international sun care formulations is a plus.
  • Practical background in statistical evaluations
  • Experience in rheology is a plus
  • Background in aerosol technology, with thorough understanding of and ability to implement aerosol technologies for skin care formulations, is a plus
  • Understanding of In Vivo and In Vitro SPF and UVA testing, as well as the equipment utilized for this testing, is a plus
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to implement aerosol technologies for skin care formulations
  • Knowledge of patent art, and the ability to read, understand and explain patents is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal / written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritizing and follow up skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks / projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to think and act independently and make sound decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete projects on time.
  • Good documentation practices essential
  • Ability to travel. The position may require travel to contract manufacturing sites, vendors, industry meetings, and external seminars. May also require occasional international travel to countries in Europe, Japan, and / or Latin America.
