Job Purpose
Leads and drives continuous improvement opportunities for electrical, control, and automation systems throughout the plant. Responsible for supporting, developing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and implementing automation and controls solutions for manufacturing equipment and industrial processes. Supports engineering and operations teams in automation architecture, equipment reliability, commissioning, process optimization, system integration, and continuous improvement initiatives for new and existing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Automation Systems Reliability & Technical Support
- Ensure reliable operation of automation and control systems supporting manufacturing processes.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, robotics, vision systems, and industrial networks.
- Lead corrective actions to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Support maintenance teams in resolving complex automation and controls issues.
2. Controls Engineering & System Development
- Design, develop, modify, and optimize automation and control systems for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
- Develop and maintain control system architecture, electrical schematics, I/O layouts, panel designs, and technical documentation.
- Establish and maintain automation standards, programming practices, and system specifications.
- Support development of process specifications, validation methods, and performance requirements.
3. Equipment Commissioning, Validation & Process Transfers
- Lead commissioning, startup, debugging, and validation activities for new equipment and automation systems.
- Support equipment installations, process transfers, and manufacturing expansions.
- Ensure automation systems meet safety, quality, productivity, and reliability requirements.
- Coordinate technical activities associated with equipment modifications and upgrades.
4. Automation Integration & Digital Manufacturing
- Integrate PLC, HMI, robotics, vision, servo, and data acquisition systems into manufacturing operations.
- Support implementation of Industry 4.0, manufacturing data collection, and process monitoring initiatives.
- Analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for optimization and operational improvements.
- Support standardization and scalability of automation solutions across manufacturing operations.
5. Continuous Improvement & Technical Leadership
- Lead automation-related continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and cost reduction.
- Identify and implement process optimization opportunities through automation technologies.
- Provide technical coaching and training to maintenance, engineering, and production personnel.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturing performance and operational excellence.
6. Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, machine safety requirements, and corporate engineering guidelines.
- Support risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure automation systems comply with quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and support internal and external audits.
